Dhaka Polytechnic Institute is the oldest Polytechnic Institute in Bangladesh. It was established in 1955 with only 120 students in the first year classes of Diploma-In-Engineering in four technologies, namely, Civil, Electrical, Mechanical and power with the growing demands of mid-level technical manpower home and abroad the Institute has since greatly expended. The Institute now offers courses in Eleven technologies. Thus the Bangladesh Technical Education Board came into existence with the jurisdiction over the entire area of Bangladesh to organize, supervise, regulate, control and develop technical and vocational education. The Board in its present form became operative with effect from June 1969.
